Biography
Dr. Shira Goldenberg is a research scientist at the Centre for Gender and Sexual Health Equity and an associate professor in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the San Diego State University School of Public Health. She is a social epidemiologist and mixed-methods researcher leading National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Canadian-funded research on sexual and reproductive health, HIV and substance-related inequities amongst migrants, sex workers and other marginalized populations. She is also co-director of the San Diego State University/University of California San Diego Joint Doctoral Program in Public Health (Epidemiology) and teaches in social epidemiology, epidemiologic methods, migrant health and related fields.
Dr. Goldenberg has led several NIH and Canadian-funded studies addressing HIV, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health inequities faced by migrants and marginalized women. She has provided expert guidance on several global and national policy initiatives and clinical guidelines related to HIV, sexual and reproductive health care, and human rights of marginalized communities.
