Join us for a workshop on budgeting basics for your research project. This session offers a comprehensive overview of cost proposal development, expense categorization and practical templates to help you get started in preparing a project budget. The session will also cover critical aspects of monitoring and reporting, including cost management elements such as expense control and reporting. There will also be a discussion on research project finance, including common funding mechanisms, funding matching and post-award considerations.

No prior experience is required to participate. This session is open for those new to project cost management or those looking to refine their skills on this topic.

This workshop is part of our VCHRI Research Training Series. This series is designed to support the acquisition of advanced skills, techniques and knowledge and lead to enhanced practices in the conduct of research.

The importance of budget structure in research project cost management
The various stages of research project cost management, including project launch and set-up, monitoring and reporting
To understand the elements of cost proposal development for a research project
Key considerations for budget and cost management in research, including common funding mechanisms and matching funding

About the speaker

Robyn Roscoe is a certified Project Management Professional with nearly 20 years of experience in the management of large health research projects, and more than 30 years of experience in the scientific and technical fields. Since 2011, Robyn has been principal of Lyric Management, specializing in management and leadership training and teaching, event coordination and delivery, grant writing and facilitation, and career coaching. She has been recognized with several awards from the Canadian Association of Research Administration. Robyn is committed to leading and enabling responsible and efficient conduct of research through good operational controls, administration, reporting and people systems as well as sound project management to ensure the financial and operational strengths of an organization.
