Biography
Dr. Jolanda Cibere is a senior research scientist at Arthritis Research Canada and an associate professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Dr. Cibere’s research is focused on the longitudinal evaluation of early knee and hip osteoarthritis. She pioneered a study on the efficacy of glucosamine sulfate in osteoarthritis. The 24-week study involved 137 subjects in four Canadian centres, all of whom were using glucosamine at the start of the study, and found no evidence of benefit from continued use of glucosamine. Dr. Cibere uses magnetic resonance imaging, biomarkers and clinical assessments to develop tools for early diagnosis and to predict osteoarthritis progression.
