Biography
Dr. Purang Abolmaesumi is a professor and Distinguished University Scholar in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He is an associate member of the Department of Urologic Sciences and School of Biomedical Engineering, as well as the recipient of the Killam Faculty Research Prize, the Killam Research Fellowship and the Killam Award for Excellence in Mentoring at UBC. He is also a Fellow of Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Interventions (MICCAI), Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
Dr. Abolmaesumi is internationally recognized and has received numerous awards for his pioneering developments in medical image analysis, machine learning and image-guided interventions. His most recent research focuses on the applications of machine learning in ultrasound imaging, with specific focus on point-of-care ultrasound imaging and cancer imaging.
