Biography
Dr. Sonny Thiara was born and raised in Prince George, British Columbia to Indian immigrants. He completed medical school through the University of British Columbia (UBC) Northern Medical Program in Prince George. He did his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in critical care at UBC, then traveled to Melbourne, Australia to complete a clinical fellowship in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) while obtaining a Master of Public Health in clinical epidemiology through Harvard University. Dr. Thiara now works as an intensivist at Vancouver General Hospital where he is establishing a program of research around ECMO. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Critical Care Medicine at UBC.
