Biography
With over 15 years of research experience at academic and research institutions, Dr. Vishaldeep Sidhu is currently the Director of Research Operations at the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation (CCI-CIC). She directs and manages all day-to-day research operations within CCI-CIC including research administration, grant facilitation, personnel and project management. From 2018 to 2020, she worked as Research Manager for the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she managed and supported all research activity and strategic research directions of the UBC Division of Cardiology. She received the 2021 Early Career Excellence Award by UBC’s Department of Medicine for her outstanding contributions to cardiology research. Previously, as project manager at Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre (BC Cancer), she managed large scale research projects, grants, finances and personnel. As a senior researcher and lab manager at the University of Calgary, she helped set up and manage a multi-million-dollar Metabolomics Research Lab and Facility.
Dr. Sidhu holds a PhD in microbiology from Bielefeld University in Germany and trained as a postdoctoral fellow at National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States. The primary focus of her research at NIH was identification of biomarkers under DHA (omega-3 fatty acid) deficiency using mass-spectrometric proteomics approaches. She published her work in peer-reviewed journals and was awarded a Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) by NIH.
