Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study is to determine if coronary artery disease (CAD) screening is necessary for patients on the waiting list for kidney transplantation. Patients on the waiting list for kidney transplantation are at risk for CAD. Currently, patients without any symptoms of CAD undergo annual testing to determine if they have disease. The optimal strategy to monitor and maintain the cardiac fitness of these patients is unknown. The results of this study will either make better use of scarce deceased donor kidneys by informing better management of waitlist patients, or will save valuable resources due to averting needless and potentially harmful tests in patients without symptoms.
Eligibility
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are:
- 18 years of age or older
- dialysis-dependent and currently being assessed for or are active on the kidney transplant waiting list
- expected to require further screening for CAD prior to transplantation (by current standard of care)
- able to give consent
- anticipated to undergo transplantation more than 12 months from date of enrolment
