Purpose of Study
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of non-invasive transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation (TCSCS) on cardiovascular, bladder, bowel and sexual function in people with spinal cord injury. The study team is interested in the immediate, long-term and longer-term effects (eight weeks after cessation of therapy) of non-invasive stimulation on these functions.
Eligible participants will attend 42 visits over the course of about 30 weeks. These visits will include assessment of cardiovascular, bladder, bowel and sexual function, as well as application of non-invasive transcutaneous spinal cord stimulation. Health Canada has not approved the sale of use of this medical device for autonomic function recovery in individuals with spinal cord injury, although they have allowed its use in this clinical study.
