Biography
Dr. David Wood is a professor and the incoming head of cardiology at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) Hospital. He is the director of both the UBC Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation and the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at VGH. Dr. Wood is the president of the Canadian Association of Interventional Cardiology (CAIC-ACCI). He received the Luminary Award at the recent C3 Global Submit. In 2019 he created a new two-day national meeting, the CAIC-ACCI Summit, an open Canadian forum to discuss controversies in complex coronary and structural heart disease interventions
Dr. Wood works as a structural and interventional cardiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital and VGH. He obtained subspecialty training at Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York. His primary research interests include transcatheter management of structural and valvular heart disease, new device development, novel strategies for treating acute coronary syndrome and advanced cardiac imaging. Dr. Wood has participated in over 50 live-cases and 20 first-in-human cases. He has co-authored over 200 publications. In 2019 he published the 3M TAVR Study and the SAFE MANTA Study, and was co-principal investigator of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research-funded COMPLETE trial that was presented as Late Breaking Science at both ESC 2019 and TCT 2019 with simultaneous publication in the New England Journal of Medicine and Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He recently secured funding for COMPLETE TAVR, an international randomized controlled trial that will determine the optimal strategy for managing concomitant coronary artery disease in patients with symptomatic AS.
