Biography
Dr. Janarthanan Sathananthan is a researcher with the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation and an interventional cardiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Auckland, completed cardiology training through Auckland’s Greenlane Cardiology Program and is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. During his cardiology training he also completed a Master of Public Health focusing on research methodology. He completed four years of subspecialty training in interventional cardiology, which included one year at Greenlane, one year at Toronto General Hospital studying complex coronary intervention and a further two years at the Centre for Heart Valve Innovation studying structural heart interventions.
Dr. Sathananthan’s clinical interests include both coronary and structural intervention. He is active in pre-clinical research with a focus on bench testing of cardiovascular devices and clinical research with a focus on structural heart disease. He is also the director of the Centre for Heart Valve Innovation Bench Testing Laboratory and is a Canadian representative for the International Standards Organization, an advisory body for the testing of cardiovascular devices.
